Lead with a powerful executive summary
Your summary should read like an elevator pitch to a board member. Lead with your title level, industry expertise, and most impressive P&L or organizational impact. Example: "Fortune 500 CFO with 20 years driving financial transformation. Led $2B acquisition integration and delivered 18% margin improvement."
Focus on scope and scale
Executive bullets should emphasize team size, budget responsibility, revenue impact, and geographic scope. "Managed P&L for $500M division" beats "Responsible for division finances." Every bullet should answer: how big, how much, how many.
Include board and advisory experience
Board seats, advisory roles, speaking engagements, and published thought leadership differentiate executive candidates. Create a dedicated section for these if you have 2+ entries. They signal industry influence beyond your day job.
Use a 2-3 page format
Executive resumes can and should be longer than standard 1-page formats. Two to three pages is appropriate for director level and above. Include a career highlights section on page one for quick scanning by busy decision-makers.
